Tips for Working Remotely

In the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown, businesses have moved a majority of workers (maybe including you!) to remote work. Many workers are now pushing to stay remote due to the ease of access and lack of commute times. However, there are glaringly obvious drawbacks to such a method, the most prevalent the distractions that come with home life. We at Artisan Direct want to help you stay focused and get more done at home with these five tips!

1.     Routine: Keep a consistent work schedule no matter how hard it is! Start your day at a certain time and end it at a consistent end time. This will make it easier to separate work from relaxing. Since the home is simultaneously your workplace, it is important to create a separation between the two to make sure you do not get burnt out.

2.     Work environment: Make sure to either quarter off a section of your living space for work, and make sure that it is conducive to the way you work. Another option is to even try that cafe down the street or the local library. The most important part is that your environment is devoid of distractions. If family or friends are at home with you, it might require you to set boundaries and “do not disturb” hours.

3.     Take breaks: Productive work starts with productive breaks. Everyone should take breaks, and the most productive people know how to give themselves a few minutes to go outside, go on a walk, listen to music, or talk to a friend or family. Do not be afraid to take breaks, but try to keep the breaks for less than 15 minutes. We recommend 15 minutes for about an hour and a half worth of work (with a reasonable lunch break somewhere in there of course).

4.     Maintain communication with co-workers: The main reason office space is so productive is the ease of access and constant communication with others. At home, you should supplement this with several emails a day, texts, and facetime conferences. Not only with this keep you accountable, but it will also fill the void of human interaction that talking to co-workers filled.

5.     Attitude: The mood you approach the day with will directly correlate to how the day goes. We’re not saying that every day has to be the greatest day on earth, but try to make the most out of every situation and enjoy yourself as much as possible. Be open with yourself focus on the tasks at hand.

Even if you find yourself returning to the office, these tips can still help with day-to-day activities. If you enjoyed this blog, make sure to check out our others and visit Artisan Direct to see our other services and sign design and placement options!
